I've seen this meme on a lot of blogs and decided to join in. This meme was created by The Broke and Bookish. Every Tuesday there is a new topic that involves a list of ten books.
This week's topic: Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR
The above books are all being published this Fall but I have already had the fortune to read them. All of them are amazing and you guys definitely need to pick them up!
Here are the remaining books on my Fall TBR that I haven't gotten a chance to read them yet.
Synopsis: A world battered by climate shift and war turns to an ancient method of keeping peace: the exchange of hostages. The Children of Peace - sons and daughters of kings and presidents and generals - are raised together in small, isolated schools called Preceptures. There, they learn history and political theory, and are taught to gracefully accept what may well be their fate: to die if their countries declare war.
Greta Gustafsen Stuart, Duchess of Halifax and Crown Princess of the Pan-Polar Confederation, is the pride of the North American Precepture. Learned and disciplined, Greta is proud of her role in keeping the global peace, even though, with her country controlling two-thirds of the world’s most war-worthy resource — water — she has little chance of reaching adulthood alive.
Enter Elián Palnik, the Precepture’s newest hostage and biggest problem. Greta’s world begins to tilt the moment she sees Elián dragged into the school in chains. The Precepture’s insidious surveillance, its small punishments and rewards, can make no dent in Elián, who is not interested in dignity and tradition, and doesn’t even accept the right of the UN to keep hostages.
What will happen to Elián and Greta as their two nations inch closer to war.
Synopsis: Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety?
Synopsis: Revenge is worth its weight in gold.
When hers father is murdered for a journal revealing the location of a hidden gold mine, eighteen-year-old Kate Thompson disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers—and justice. What she finds are untrustworthy strangers, endless dust and heat, and a surprising band of allies, among them a young Apache girl and a pair of stubborn brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, a startling truth becomes clear: some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.
Synopsis: The strange war down south—with its rumors of gods and monsters—is over. And while sixteen-year-old Hallie and her sister wait to see who will return from the distant battlefield, they struggle to maintain their family farm.
When Hallie hires a veteran to help them, the war comes home in ways no one could have imagined, and soon Hallie is taking dangerous risks—and keeping desperate secrets. But even as she slowly learns more about the war and the men who fought it, ugly truths about Hallie’s own family are emerging. And while monsters and armies are converging on the small farm, the greatest threat to her home may be Hallie herself.
Synopsis: A high-concept, fantastical espionage novel set in a world where dreams are the ultimate form of political intelligence.
Livia is a dreamstrider. She can inhabit a subject's body while they are sleeping and, for a short time, move around in their skin. She uses her talent to work as a spy for the Barstadt Empire. But her partner, Brandt, has lately become distant, and when Marez comes to join their team from a neighborhing kingdom, he offers Livia the option of a life she had never dared to imagine. Livia knows of no other dreamstriders who have survived the pull of Nightmare. So only she understands the stakes when a plot against the Empire emerges that threatens to consume both the dreaming world and the waking one with misery and rage.
A richly conceived world full of political intrigue and fantastical dream sequences, at its heart Dreamstrider is about a girl who is struggling to live up to the potential before her.
Synopsis: They exist in two different centuries, but their love defies time
Cassandra craves drama and adventure, so the last thing she wants is to spend her summer marooned with her mother and stepfather in a snooty Massachusetts shore town. But when a dreamy stranger shows up on their private beach claiming it's his own—and that the year is 1925—she is swept into a mystery a hundred years in the making.
As she searches for answers in the present, Cassandra discovers a truth that puts their growing love—and Lawrence's life—into jeopardy. Desperate to save him, Cassandra must find a way to change history…or risk losing Lawrence forever.
Synopsis: For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.
When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.
But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.
Synopsis: Lo-Melkhiin killed three hundred girls before he came to her village, looking for a wife. When she sees the dust cloud on the horizon, she knows he has arrived. She knows he will want the loveliest girl: her sister. She vows she will not let her be next.
And so she is taken in her sister's place, and she believes death will soon follow. Lo-Melkhiin's court is a dangerous palace filled with pretty things: intricate statues with wretched eyes, exquisite threads to weave the most beautiful garments. She sees everything as if for the last time. But the first sun rises and sets, and she is not dead. Night after night, Lo-Melkhiin comes to her and listens to the stories she tells, and day after day she is awoken by the sunrise. Exploring the palace, she begins to unlock years of fear that have tormented and silenced a kingdom. Lo-Melkhiin was not always a cruel ruler. Something went wrong.
Far away, in their village, her sister is mourning. Through her pain, she calls upon the desert winds, conjuring a subtle unseen magic, and something besides death stirs the air.
Back at the palace, the words she speaks to Lo-Melkhiin every night are given a strange life of their own. Little things, at first: a dress from home, a vision of her sister. With each tale she spins, her power grows. Soon she dreams of bigger, more terrible magic: power enough to save a king, if she can put an end to the rule of a monster.
Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Arden Huntley is recklessly loyal. Taking care of her loved ones is what gives Arden purpose in her life and makes her feel like she matters. But she's tired of being loyal to people who don't appreciate her—including her needy best friend and her absent mom.
Arden finds comfort in a blog she stumbles upon called "Tonight the Streets Are Ours," the musings of a young New York City writer named Peter. When Peter is dumped by the girlfriend he blogs about, Arden decides to take a road trip to see him.
During one crazy night out in NYC filled with parties, dancing, and music—the type of night when anything can happen, and nearly everything does—Arden discovers that Peter isn't exactly who she thought he was. And maybe she isn't exactly who she thought she was, either.
Synopsis: Set in gilded age New York, These Shallow Graves follows the story of Josephine Montfort, an American aristocrat. Jo lives a life of old-money ease. Not much is expected of her other than to look good and marry well. But when her father dies due to an accidental gunshot, the gilding on Jo’s world starts to tarnish. With the help of a handsome and brash reporter, and a young medical student who moonlights in the city morgue, Jo uncovers the truth behind her father’s death and learns that if you’re going to bury the past, you’d better bury it deep.
What do you guys think? Any of these on your TBR? Have you read them already? Or any of these I should skip over? Let me know ^_^
These Shallow Graves sounds really cool. I gave my copy away, so I guess if I'm going to read it, I'll be waiting until the end of October. I also definitely want to read Tonight the Streets Are Ours soon!! Great list :)
ReplyDeleteThese Shallow Graves has been sitting on my shelf for a while. I've considered giving it away but the concept just sounded really cool so I couldn't.
DeleteI've been hearing mixed things about Tonight the Streets Are Ours which is why I haven't read it yet but we'll see. Hopefully, we both like it!
Ooh, VENGEANCE ROAD! I really, really liked that one. And it'd be good for fall, so bump it to the top of your TBR!
ReplyDeleteRachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf
Thanks for the tip! I will move it up on my list =)
DeleteI need to read all of these, but Vengeance Road also made my list!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT.
I really need to get to reading all of them! Thanks for stopping by =)
DeleteI really liked These Shallow Graves! It kind of reminded me of The Diviners so if you like that one, you will probably like it! That's the only one from your list that I've read, but I want to read a lot of them!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Diviners yet but good to know!
DeleteWow, loving the look of your list. I also like the sound of These Shallow Graves. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I feel bad for not getting into These Shallow Graves sooner.
DeleteThese Shallow Graves sounds amazing! I hadn't heard of it before but I'm definitely adding it to my TBR pile. Dreamstrider sounds incredible too, and I am in love with the cover. I love time travel romances, so Until We Meet Again sounds right up my street. I absolutely love your list!
ReplyDeleteI also love Time Travel Romances! I'm so excited to read all of these books.
DeleteThank you for stopping by!
Hi! Tonight the Streets Are Ours looks good. My Fall TBR list is growing. Again. :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Leslie
My TBR is constantly growing! Life of a bookworm lol
DeleteDreamstrider is one that I want to read too, but I doubt that I will get to it this autumn.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2015/09/22/top-ten-tuesday-23/
I don't know when I'll get to Dreamstrider but I really want to get to her other books too!
DeleteCan't wait to read Tonight the Streets Are Ours, These Shallow Graves and Soundless. I'm a bit more afraid of A Thousand Nights because I heard REALLY mixed things about that one. Anyhow, really great list! Happy reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like the reason A Thousand Nights is because it had the misfortunate to come out the same year as The Wrath and The Dawn but I won't know until I read it.
DeleteThank you for stopping by!
Six of Crows has been the book I've been waiting for all year long. I'm counting down the days until this beauty!
ReplyDeleteSix of Crows is AMAZING!!!! Leigh Bardugo is the QUEEN. I love all of her books and I hope you enjoy this book!
DeleteYou have some fun ones on your list! Dream Strider looks particularly fun.;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Dreamstrider caught my attention with it's cover (it's gorgeous if you haven't noticed lol) but the synopsis sounds so interesting!
DeleteI don't think I've heard of any of these before I read your list. Those are some gorgeous covers! Dream Strider and Vengeance Road both sound really interesting. I need to check those out.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I was able to introduce you to more books! I hope that you like them all =)
DeleteI quite enjoyed The Scorpion Rules. Walk on Earth a Stranger is on my TTT list this week too! I really like the cover and the premise sounds so interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing great things about The Scorpion Rules, and I've been needing to read a book by Rae Carson book for a while so when I got Walk On Earth a Stranger I figured that was a good place to start.
DeleteLots of these new releases are on my TBR too. These Shallow Graves, Walk on Earth a Stranger, and A Thousand Nights are all on my TBR! So many good releases this season.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by the The Local Muse
Sooo many amazing releases coming out! It's hard to keep up with them all.
DeleteI would consider selling a tiny part of my soul for Soundless tbh, Asian fantasy are just something that I really adore.
ReplyDeleteI dislike Westerns but all the fabulous reviews for Vengeance Road and Walk On Earth A Stranger has me so curious, I hope to have time to read them this year as well :D
Aentee at Read at Midnight
I've been hearing mixed things about Soundless so I'm worried but I'm totally with you on Asian fantasty--there is not enough of it out there.
DeleteI'm not big on Western's either but because these books are getting so much buzz I have to check them out.
I didn't enjoy A Thousand Nights (DNF) :( I hope you have a better experience! I'm really looking forward to Walk on Earth a Stranger, but I've heard mixed things about Vengeance Road. Dream Strider really intrigues me, I'm interested to see what you think about it!
ReplyDeleteI know soo many people who have DNFed A Thousand Nights, it's probably why I haven't picked it up yet. I've also heard mixed things about Vengeance Road but so many people told me to read it so we'll see. I'm really excited about Dreamstrider!
DeleteEverything looks great! I liked A Thousand Nights and I'm currently reading Illuminae. I really can't wait to hear to hear your thoughts on These Shallow Graves. I probably won't get to it til November (it seems so far away).
ReplyDeleteAnd Walk on Earth a Stranger is FAB!
No idea when I'll get to These Shallow Graves but we'll see!
DeleteIlluminae is AMAZING. I just can't get over this book!
I heard that a Thousand Nights was pretty shitty, so I'm definitely not reading that, I have AIOA, TTSOO, DS, WONAS, and I plan on picking up TSR so we could soooo get a buddy read going. We must have a successful BR soon girl, especially since we have similar tastes!
ReplyDeleteThe main reason I've heard A Thousand Nights was bad is because people compare it to The Wrath and The Dawn and I'm not sure that's a fair comparison but I'll let you know.
DeleteWe so do! It seems that we agree on a lot =)
I'm really dying to read Walk On Earth A Stranger. I own an arc of it but I just haven't had the time :/ I also want to read Soundless because I loved Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. But I'm lowering my expectations because I've mostly been hearing negative reviews about it :( I hope it's the opposite for me and you.
ReplyDelete~Karina @ A Reader Under The Sea
Same thing with Walk On Earth A Stranger, I've had the ARC for a long time but haven't found time for it yet. I'm hopping that I'll get to read it this week. I haven't read the Vampire Academy books but Soundless was just calling to me but the mixed reviews have me worried. Hopefully we both like it!
DeleteI really want to read These Shallow Graves too! My TTT
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing that a lot of people are really excited about it =)
DeleteFabulous list! I either have read or plan to read all of these I think! So, I LOVED Walk on Earth a Stranger, and I really liked Vengeance Road. The Scorpion Rules was decent. An Inheritance of Ashes... was not. At least for me. I am currently reading A Thousand Nights and... I don't know yet, basically. I didn't like it at ALL at first, but now it has picked up a bit. I hope I can finish it tonight, and then I'll know for sure! I am looking forward to the rest of these (especially some of the ones you've read! I am dying to read Six of Crows- it's on my bookshelf, why haven't I!?- and The Rose Society. Illuminae WAS great!), like These Shallow Graves and Until We Meet Again. I am nervous for a few of the others (namely Soundless and Tonight the Streets are Ours) because I have seen some... mixed reviews, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to read them all, and that you love them!
Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Six of Crows is amazing, my favorite of the year! I hope that you love it. I would suggest that if you haven't read The Grisha books to start with those because Six of Crows makes references to those books and characters and it'll mean more to you if you've read the other books.
DeleteIlluminae is AMAZING!!!
I'm generally always nervous when I read very popular books. I have heard mixed things (I don't read reviews before reading a book so I leave a book with only my thoughts and not others) about a lot of these books but we will see!
