My TBR list is always growing and I thought it would be fun to share my anticipation for those books with all of you. This is not my own original meme; it belongs to Breaking the Spine. It specifically spotlights upcoming releases. As it implies in the title, I'll be posting this meme on Wednesdays. Please feel free to comment and let me know what books you guys are waiting on as well!
This week's theme: Dangerous Girls!

She tricks her brother, Kenshin, and betrothed, Raiden, into thinking she was being held by the Black Clan against her will, playing the part of the dutiful bride-to-be to infiltrate the emperor's ranks and uncover the truth behind the betrayal that almost left her dead. With the wedding plans already underway, Mariko pretends to be consumed with her upcoming nuptials, all the while using her royal standing to peel back the layers of lies and deception surrounding the imperial court. But each secret she unfurls gives way to the next, ensnaring Mariko and Okami in a political scheme that threatens their honor, their love and very the safety of the empire.
If you are unaware of how much I loved Flame in the Mist, check out my review here! I even did an interview with Renée for PenguinTeen on tour to promote it!
I'm so excited to find out how this duology is going to conclude. I am especially excited for more of Mariko and Okami's banter.

Three Dark Crowns meets Pretty Little Liars in this sensational and striking new fantasy from debut author Ellen Goodlett.Three girls with three deadly secrets. Only one can wear the crown.Zofi has spent her entire life traveling across the Reaches. Just when her freedom matters most, the king's men arrive and drag her away from her fellow Travelers to bring her to the capital—Kolonya.Ren grew up in Kolonya, serving as a ladies' maid at court. She dreams of being a noble herself one day, but being ominously summoned to the king's courtroom after a misdeed isn't exactly what she had in mind.Akeylah was raised by an abusive father in the Eastern Reach, surrounded by brewing insurrection. She'd do anything to escape her family, even accept the invitation of a king who has every reason to despise her. Each girl hides a dangerous secret—the kind that could get her killed for treason. But when the girls are brought before King Andros expecting an execution, instead they learn the truth: the king is dying and they are his only living heirs. Now the three of them must live at court and compete for the chance to rule. But someone in Kolonya knows the girls' secrets, and they'll stop at nothing to keep them from the throne.
I'm in love with this cover! Overall, I'm hoping that this will be a female-heavy, YA version of Game of Thrones.
Ellen Goodlett writes science fiction because otherwise she would spend her days plotting to take over the world. She figures that the former would benefit humanity ever so slightly more than the latter (which would be disastrous and involve a lot of cats in government positions). She lives in New York City with two demons masquerading as felines. She is a proud graduate of Bryn Mawr College and a Pittsburgh expat.

What do you guys think? Are these books on your TBR? Is it the first time you're hearing about them? Let me know!
OMG HOW HAD I NOT HEARD OF RULE?!? And also is the cover not so freaking fantastic. I don't even care about any more details at this stage. That cover + that premise = me needing it. *flails wildly in the background*😍😍
ReplyDeleteThe cover just snuck up on me, and when I was looking through books to feature, I was like "when did this get a cover?!" I'm so excited for it and I hope we both love it.
DeleteOhh nice! I soooo cannot wait for Renee's book! Though I wish they could've used this cover concept the first go around! I'm weird about matching covers/formats! Lol! The second one is totally new to me! Oddly, the cover is reminding me of Furyborn! Hope you enjoy both of these once you get to read them!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Really? I prefer the cover of Flame over this but I'm still excited for this one! The cover is very similar to Furyborn, and originally when I was skimming through my to-read shelf on Goodreads, I thought it was for a second haha.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I can't believe I still haven't read or even bought (!) Flame in the Mist. I love Renée Ahdieh so I don't even know why. The new covers are really pretty, though so yay! Rule seems to be a knew to me book but it sounds really good. The cover is incredible! :o
ReplyDeleteOmg you need to! Get on this immediately before Smoke in the Sun comes out!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Great choices! I cant wait to read Smoke in the Sun.
ReplyDeleteI hope we enjoy both when they come out.

Thank you! I hope we do, too!
DeleteOoo Rule is getting added to my list ASAP!
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad I could put it on your radar ^_^
DeleteRule sounds so interesting! This wasn't on my radar before, but now I'm intrigued. I've been a bit more picky with my fantasies lately, but I'll keep my eyes out.
ReplyDeleteAND OF COURSE I'M SO EXCITED FOR SMOKE IN THE SUN haha, who wouldn't be?? Love these features!

I totally get that because I feel like there have been a lot of "fantasies" that have been pretty generic lately but hopefully this one is as good as it sounds.
DeleteI AM SO EXCITED FOR SMOKE IN THE SUN!
I hadn't heard of Rule before---looks interesting! (though the PLL comparison makes me a little nervous lol). Oh, Flame in the Mist is a duology? Very cool---I need to read book 1 soon so I can be ready for Smoke in the Sun!
ReplyDeleteI don't always believe the comp titles until I've read it, but I haven't watched the show so that doesn't change anything for me. I kind of wish Flame in the Mist was a trilogy because I think it could benefit from more time in space BUT I'm very excited.
DeleteINUYASHA! Sorry I love that anime. :D
ReplyDeleteBoth of these books sound like something I need to read. Yep, adding to my wishlist!
Inuyasha is like my all-time fave! I had no idea you liked it too! We must speak about this later
DeleteI think so too! I hope you added them to your TBR.
ReplyDeleteThat cover for Rule is just like everything epic in this world. NEED SO BAD. And I confess I still haven't read Flame in the Mist but I will at some point ah haha.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Flame in the Mist yet, but SAMURAIS. It is definitely a must-read for me, hopefully this year!!! And the cover for Rule is so pretty. I can't stop staring at it. T_T Also that Inuyasha GIF is making me want to ~finally~ start watching it!
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
The cover to Rule is stunning! Thanks for the heads up on both of these. 💜
ReplyDeleteOhh, both of these covers are so awesome :D I'm curious about both. <3 And hoping you will love them a whole bunch :) Lovely picks sweetie. <3
ReplyDeleteBoth of these sound amazing and this also reminds me that I need to get my butt in gear and read Flame in the Mist. I don't even know why I keep putting it off, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like both your picks!! I still have to read Flame in the Mist, but I have it and I'm really curious about it :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and stopping by my blog earlier!
I can not wait for Smoke in the Sun! And I didn't know about Rule yet, but it sounds AMAZING :)
