Only those young enough can survive the pulse-pounding rush of tetra, a dangerous and addictive new drug that fuels a nine-minute burst of superhuman strength and speed. Alana West has been trained to use the drug so she can pursue the young criminals who abuse its power—criminals like the breakneck who nearly killed her kid brother.

On tetra, Alana is unstoppable. The rush makes her an explosive blur as she surges through New York City, battling to bring down breaknecks before they leave more people dead or injured in their wake. But with the clock ticking down to her eighteenth birthday, Alana will soon be too old for the rush...when just one more dose will prove deadly.

Supported only by her strong and steady handler, Tucker, Alana goes undercover, infiltrating an elite gang of breaknecks to stop the supply of their drug. But when Alana gets trapped on the wrong side of the law, she learns the breaknecks are not quite what they seem—especially Ethan, the artistic boy whose bottomless brown eyes seem to see the truth inside her. With her own dependency on tetra increasing, Alana must decide where her loyalties lie before the rush ends. Forever.

This is the BEST action book I have read in a long, long time. Night Speed's plot centers around Tetra—a drug that makes you super fast for nine minutes. It also makes you see the world in a new and colorful way—and that's exactly how I felt while reading this book. Night Speed got my adrenaline pumping to the point where my hands were shaking and it left me breathless.

Experiencing all of the highs and lows of the main character made me feel so alive. Night Speed has cast me under its spell, and to call it amazing is a total understatement. I couldn't contain the overflowing joy I felt when I was reading, it was an overwhelmingly thrilling adventure that I want everyone to experience, so do yourself a favor and go pre-order this awe-inspiring book!

1) Chris really captures New York City perfectly. I personally know and frequent many of the locations mentioned in the book, and he just makes these places sing with new life. At one point while I was reading, it mentioned Macy's on 34th Street and I just happened to be walking by there at that moment—which was mildly terrifying, but ultimately made my experience even better.

2) I really love the plot, it is action-packed with twists that hit you so hard, you'll find yourself questioning your own sanity.

There are dashes of romance, but it's not the center of the story-line. I truly enjoyed the main character's struggle of wanting to fight for the good guys and striving to be a good person, while simultaneously being conflicted and wondering if she's really just involved so she can acquire more Tetra—the execution was just brilliant.

3) The descriptions of Tetra and how it works were so seamless, that I felt like not only did I understand, but I was so pulled into the story that I was also on this drug. I experienced the highs and the lows through the MC as the book progressed, and it was one of the most unique experiences I've had while reading.

4) The descriptions of all the actions scenes are so well-executed that you feel like you're watching a movie. It was really intense and had me tearing through the pages! It's incredibly hard to capture an action scene in a book that feels realistic and fast-paced, but Chris Howard is a true master!

1) It's a standalone.

  1. This book hasn't really been on my radar but your review makes me want to read it. I see you put standalone as a weakness but I'm kind of happy about that? I'm sure I'll change my opinion after I read it lol... Thanks for the review :D

    1. I get why you'd be happy about it. There are so many cases where it would have been better if a series had ended instead of dragging on to the point where the story is just crap. In this case, I just wanted more action and adventures!

I hope you pick it up and if you do, tell me about it!!

  2. This seems like my kind of book, is it a thriller? I hate the fact that some books are SOOOO good but that they are standalones! :(

    1. I don't usually pick up action books because I find that they are often corny and the action impossible to picture but it wasn't the case in this book. I think you'd really like this one, so give it a whirl!

      Thank you <3
